Simple steps to fabulous feet!
Foot pain is not normal, so if you suffer from aches, pains and twinges in your feet or legs during walking or exercise you should consider seeing a foot health professional. Our feet mirror our general health and pain or persistent soreness are usually warning signs that should not be ignored.
That said there are some things that we can do ourselves that will help keep our feet in tip-top condition, so here is our self-help guide to fabulous feet!
Firstly, inspect your feet regularly. Look for changes in colour and temperature of your feet and nails. If you have discoloured or deformed nails see a foot health professional, as this may indicate a fungal infection.
Don't wear the same shoes every day. Each foot produces an eggcup's worth of sweat every day, so they need time to dry out. Choose shoes with a breathable leather upper and lining.
Feet can be prone to hardened skin, especially on the heel and ball. Minimise the build-up of hard skin by using a foot file or pumice stone once a week on clean, dry feet.
Soak your feet for around 15-20 minutes in warm water, adding a few drops of relaxing lavender essential oil, or add a few drops of tea tree essential oil which has antiseptic and andti-fungal properties.
Pat your feet dry, and then massage in a rich cream, avoiding in between the toes. Slip on a pair of cotton socks to help the cream sink in overnight.
Always clip or cut your nails straight across to avoid ingrown toe nails.
