Stress
Stress can sometimes appear to be a slightly over-used term in day-to-day language but in itself uncontrolled, constant, unrelenting stress can have some serious health effects on our mind and body.
There are many causes of stress, both medical and lifestyle and the health problems resulting from long standing stress can be numerous, including
increased risk of stroke, high blood pressure, heart attack, stomach upsets such as gastric and duodenal ulcers to name a few. Psychologically, stress can make us depressed, agitated and increasingly incapable of dealing with the daily activities of living.
Stress also affects the musculo-skeletal system, in particular causing increased tone and spasm in muscles, which in turn reduces good blood flow to the tissues of the body.

Treatment of stress can be manifold but key to all treatments is the identification of the causes of the stress. Complementary treatments such as hypnotherapy can be very useful to help the stressed person identify their problem and develop strategies to manage it. Homeopathy can support people with all sorts of stress-related problems - short or long-term. Acupuncture can also be of benefit and Reiki promotes a general feeling of wellbeing and relaxation that helps you cope with stressful situations and people.
For stressed muscles and other soft tissues of the body massage, aromatherapy and hot stones massage have all been shown to greatly improve circulation and relieve tension both physical and emotional.
