The Emmett Technique
What is The Emmett Technique?
The Emmett Technique is a unique body therapy created by Ross Emmett. It offers an alternative treatment to ease pain and discomfort and may benefit many other conditions. The treatment can be done fully clothed and incorporates a gentle physical release of muscle groups whilst using a verbal approach to create attitude change.
How Does it Work?
The technique involves the application of light pressure at particular points and in sequences that enables the gentle physical release of muscle groups.
Clients have reported relief from or improvement in the following:
- Neck and shoulder discomfort,
- Headaches and sinus discomfort
- Back and hip discomfort
- Assistance with pregnancy and infants
- Stomach discomfort
- Forearm and grip strength
- Body symmetry and balance
- Lung capacity and body flexibility
- Stability
The Emmett Technique works well with other therapies or it can be applied on its own. The technique often allows other therapies to work more efficiently. Client comfort and accurate assessment are important elements of this therapy.
Penny Gibbings has recently been using Emmett Technique alongside Bowen Therapy to great effect. For example a regular client had recently fallen down some steps. She had lost movement in her left arm (could only raise it about 45 degrees to the side). Her neck had become very stiff and she could only turn it about 30 degrees each way. After a Bowen treatment with some Emmett Technique at the end, she left having regained full movement of both arm and head.
