Hot Stone Massage
What is Hot Stone Massage?
Hot Stone Massage originated in America in 1993 and is becoming an increasingly popular form of complimentary therapy. It is a deeply relaxing treatment, which combines holistic massage with the use of water-heated smooth stones to release physical tension, improve circulation and flush toxins from the body. Cool stones may be used to help reduce inflammation and decongestion.
How does hot stone massage work?
The stones are usually made from basalt, a rock that is rich in iron so they retain the heat. River stones or stones from certain beaches are used because they been smoothed over time by running water. The heat from the
stones warms and relaxes the muscles, which allows the therapist to work the muscles without using deep pressure.
What to expect during treatment
A full and confidential consultation will be carried out to assess the client’s needs.
Aromatic oil is applied to the skin and the hot stones are applied directly to the skin and used to massage the muscles. The therapist may use a combination of manual and hot stone massage.
